Overview

On November 2020’s ballot, Proposition 14 asked Californians for $7.8 billion to advance stem cell research by securing continued funding for the state’s stem cell research agency, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). With all eyes on a historic presidential election, global pandemic, economic crisis and a dozen different statewide ballot measures, FHA set out to do what seemed impossible: pass a multi-billion-dollar bond measure promising far-off cures on a shoestring budget, all while polling showed virtually no awareness of Prop 14.

Ultimately, Prop 14 passed against all odds – securing more than 3,600 earned media placements across every print, online, radio and broadcast outlet in the state, and activating a roster of more than 300 diverse organizations to join the “Yes on Prop 14” coalition to reach more than 17 million Californians through grassroots outreach. As voters rejected many ballot measures that appeared poised for success, California rallied behind and secured the passage of Prop 14.
