Overview
State parks are beloved and attract visitors far and wide, yet, the reality is too many Californians, especially those from disadvantaged communities, are not afforded the opportunity to experience these wonders in their own backyards. The California State Parks Foundation (CSPF) engaged FHA to educate stakeholders, leaders, and lawmakers on the health and wellness benefits that come along with being outdoors to generate support for innovative policy solutions that create new pathways to parks.
As part of this effort, FHA branded and launched the “Pathways to Parks” advocacy initiative, securing California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom as a spokesperson and partner. By leveraging original research findings and developing messaging and materials on the importance of outdoor spaces as a public health solution, the campaign worked to influence news coverage and minds at the Capitol, ultimately leading to funding for parks access pilot programs in the Governor’s budget.
